Marky Cielo changes choreography from dancing to fighting in GMA’s latest superhero series!
Marky Cielo changes choreography from dancing to fighting in GMA’s latest superhero series! After playing an enhanced human for the third time, what is Marky looking forward to the most? And how did he prepare for his biggest role yet? Marky Cielo plays the earth-born Alexis who grows up with a normal and loving family. But circumstances leads him to a different future from the one he imagined when he is contacted by the alien Gallian to become a Zaido -- galactic cops who are tasked to fight the growing evil of the Kuuma. A Different Beat Like his co-stars Dennis Trillo and Aljur Abrenica, Marky also went through the standard training to become a Zaido, but his training started a few months earlier. “Basic lang ‘yun,” Marky recounts, saying that his initial training only dealt with kicking. This, he reveals, was even before they confirmed that they were doing the show. After a few months of waiting, training resumed with his new co-stars: Dennis and Aljur. “Kaming tatlo, laru-laro kami nina Dennis at Aljur, naglaro kami sa trampoline. Enjoy,” he laughs. stars Aside from the trampoline, they also trained with wooden swords and motorcycles - where, Marky divulges, Aljur already had some knowledge about. “Si Aljur may alam na sa automatic (motorcycles).” Marky admits that learning the fight choreography was similar to studying dance routines. “Inaaral ko ‘yung mga steps, ‘yung countings. ‘Yun nga, kino-choreograph nila ‘yung mga fights, ganun din ‘yung sa sayaw.” Multi-talented, Marky also dances regularly on SOP and he says that he can use what he learns from the fight scenes for his future dance moves. “Excited ako sa mga stunts na matutunan ko. Kasi hindi ko pa alam eh. Kung ano ‘yung ituturo sa akin, kung ano ‘yung required sa akin sa eksena. Siguro gagamitin ko na ‘yung mga dating alam ko, pero kung mayroong mas maganda. ‘Yung ganoon.” But what Marky really wants to do is to do his own stunts! “Sana po,” Marky answers after iGMA asks him if he will be doing all of his stunts. But he counters that if a scene can be filmed faster with a stunt double, he wouldn’t stay in the way of the production team. “Alangan naman ipapilit kong ako pa, tapos matatagalan lang (ang shoot). Pero sana.” Action-packed It doesn’t escape Marky’s notice that most of his shows have something to do with action: Encantadia, Fantastikids and Asian Treasures all had their touches of action. This time though, the action is more intense and Marky is ready for whatever challenge the show would bring. Marky happily tells iGMA that he’s happy about his latest project, and not just because it means he has a job. “Okay lang itong action. Linya ko na rin, tapos meron pa akong matutunan. Mas matutukan ‘yung action dito (kumpara sa mga naunang shows).” He also admits that the biggest challenge he and his co-stars face is the believability of the show. Marky understands that to be able to sell the show, they would have to believe what they’re doing. “Sabi nga ni Direk Dom, dapat tanggapin namin. Pero siyempre, masaya. Kasi paiikutin namin ‘yung imagination namin.” And he teases that there’s definitely more to look forward to in Zaido. And for the detractors who keep saying the show is no Shaider, Marky defends the series by saying “Siyempre napanood na nila ‘yung una. Heto, iba ‘yung kwento, iba ‘yung delivery namin, iba ‘yung paano namin i-e-execute ito. Siyempre pagagandahin namin ito. Dapat abangan nila ang mga efforts namin dito.” -- Text by Jason John S. Lim.
