“Ang GMA po talaga, this is my home. This is my family…" - Jennylyn Mercado
On her 13th year in showbiz, Jennylyn Mercado renewed her contract with GMA Network. According to her, the decision was a no-brainer. Her reason? There’s no place like home.
“Ang GMA po talaga, this is my home. This is my family… Ito 'yung comfort zone ko… Kapag sinabi mong comfort zone mo itong GMA, parang sinabi mong pamilya mo sila. Bahay mo sila na inuuwian mo araw-araw,” she said.
During her contract signing and press conference, she enumerated few of the many reasons why she remains a Kapuso.
People are good to each other.
“Hindi pinapa-feel sa ‘yo na iba ka… Bawat taping ko, bawat trabahong ginagawa ko sa GMA, hindi siya feeling trabaho eh, kasi ganun ako ka-kumportable. Masarap maka-trabaho 'yung [lahat ng] parte ng production, pagdating sa staff, director… Masarap ka-trabaho 'yung mga co-artist natin, at sa tingin ko, hindi na 'yun mapapantayan ng kahit ano… Masarap mag-trabaho kasi pamilya 'yung turing nila sa ‘yo, at hindi ibang tao.”
She likes the projects given to her.
“Malaki po 'yung pasasalamat ko kasi halos lahat naman po ng dumarating na proyekto sa amin, maganda naman po 'yung offer so…walang chance para tumaggi kasi maganda 'yung script, magaling 'yung director. Lahat ng dumadating na offer, tinatanggap namin lalong-lalo na kung makakabuti naman para sa ‘yo, sa craft mo.”
She found lasting friendships.
“['Yung barkada ko], sila-sila pa rin. Lahat naman pag nakakatrabaho ko] nagiging kaibigan ko sa showbiz pero 'yung best friends ko talaga, sila-sila pa rin 'yun – 'yung StarStruck Batch 1. Kami-kami pa rin 'yun, 'yung kapag may problema, tatawag, magsusuguran lahat sa isang bahay.”
Jennylyn told her management that she wants to stay in the network that discovered her and that provided her an avenue for continuous growth.
“…Kahit anong mangyari talaga, GMA. Kasi sa GMA talaga 'yung… kumportable ka mag-trabaho dun sa lugar mo eh. 'Yun naman 'yung importante – natatapos 'yung araw na parang hindi ka nag-trabaho kasi nag-enjoy ka,” she concluded.
