Guess who is turning 12 this month? The longest running gag show in the Philippines, Bubble Gang, is adding another year to its tab and is going to celebrate it with a bang! An anniversary special like no other, the cast and staff bring us DO-SE-NA, a Bubble Gang musical extravaganza. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez A different show awaits us this October as Bubble Gang celebrates its twelfth year. The show’s cast is busy preparing for their one of a kind anniversary special and is inviting everybody to tune in on October 19 and 26 for their anniversary offering, DO-SE-NA! 12 years and counting The show that popularized the Sexballs and Ang Dating Doon, Bubble Gang, will soon be introducing another milestone in Philippine television. “Actually, we’re preparing a very, very difficult task, but we’re all dedicated into making it a grand-grand anniversary. So, abangan niyo po because it’s going to be very entertaining,” says Ogie Alcasid, one of the show’s pioneer members. He and Michael V. started it all way back in 1995 when the show was previously called Bubble Gang: Just chew it! . The show evolved and introduced a number of segments and characters which the viewers learned to love and anticipate every Friday night. Michael V’s MTB (Music Tagalog Bersyon) and MEV (Music English Version) were absolute hits to the Filipino viewers that they were compiled into an album, Bubble G Anthology, in 2006. Of course, who can forget the Sexballs, who rose to fame and were even invited to guest in other shows. This year we are introduced to a number of new cast members, characters, and segments of the show. The format is still the same, pop culture parody and spoofs of shows and commercials, but it seems that the viewers are treated to a whole new experience every time Bubble Gang airs, thanks to the very creative team of the show. What’s next? We can only wait and anticipate for Bubble Gang’s coming years. Bubble Gang movie for TV Quite different from MTB and the other segments of the show, DO-SE-NA is a musical extravaganza, an action-packed Bubble Gang movie for television. “We came up with something new na hindi pa nagagawa. Wala pang comedy na nag-musical yata na ganitong scale and action pa siya at bakla ang bida (smiles),” describes Michael V. who, together with Ogie Alcasid, started the Friday night habit of laughter and gags. Now the creative director of the show, Michael V. is one of the brains behind DO-SE-NA. “I’m writing all of the songs. There are like 11 of them and medyo mabilisan na nga eh,” says Michael V about this two-part anniversary special. He further shares that the production and filming of DO-SE-NA is quite stressful and requires a lot of effort from the cast and crew of the show. “Kasi full production eh, bawat song, parang High school musical, may dance at may singing,” describes Michael V. rather proudly.
