IU and Park Bo-gum with the cast of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines'
IU and Park Bo-Gum have won hearts globally with their delightful and heartwarming romance in Netflix's 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'
Set against the breathtaking scenery of Jeju Island, the series has sparked widespread buzz, fueled by the duo's irresistible chemistry.
In a recent interview, IU and Park Bo-Gum opened up about their roles, their first on-screen kiss (which came with its fair share of awkward moments), their initial impressions of each other, and the 13-year friendship that made their collaboration feel effortless.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, Park Bo-Gum reflected on his long-standing bond with IU. He reminisced about their first meeting during a commercial shoot in their younger years and their later reunion when he made a cameo in IU's drama The Producers in their twenties.
"Now that we've both entered our 30s, we finally had the chance to work on the same project. And since we're the same age, I think that naturally led to our great chemistry," he shared.
One of the most talked-about moments from the drama's premiere was Ae-sun and Gwan-sik's first kiss, set in a picturesque grassy field. While the story, characters, and performances earned praise, it was this tender yet awkward confession scene that had fans buzzing for days.
Unlike the usual dreamy K-drama kiss, the moment felt raw and full of emotions as the characters navigated their newfound feelings. The scene trended massively on social media, and Netflix later released a behind-the-scenes clip capturing its making.
IU revealed that every detail was meticulously scripted, down to the smallest gestures. “The script even specified, 'You see a fist that trembles.' So we really tried to stay as true to it as possible,” she shared.
'When Life Gives You Tangerines'
Since the drama is set in Jeju, its title is inspired by the local dialect phrase "Pokssak Sogatsuda," which means "You've worked hard." However, rather than using a direct translation for the English title, Netflix chose a more familiar phrase that better captures The heart of the show while appealing to a worldwide audience.
