Benjamin Alves visits UP Diliman for his campus tour as GNEA Ambassador
"...Reaching excellence is not easy, it’s possible but it’s not easy.” - Benjamin Alves
As this year’s GMA Network Excellence Awards Ambassador, Benjamin Alves started to go around campuses to search for the next deserving awardee. Last April 27, he was able to give a career talk to the students of University of the Philippines Diliman and share his own experiences when he was still in school.

According to the Summa Cum Laude graduate, he’s glad to be able to share his story and ideas to the youth.
“It’s not really [just] inspiring them, it’s more of sharing my experience to them. It’s just nice to be in a campus, all the students na alam mo 'yung itsura na they have so much ahead of them, they have so much potential,” Benjamin said.
The Kapuso artist also narrated that he was not as enthusiastic when he was still in high school but it all shifted when he was in college. He also shared in an interview with GMANetwork.com that it isn’t easy to reach excellence.
“I got really lazy in high school because it wasn’t very challenging, not because the classes were easy but because I didn’t want to challenge myself. If there was an honors’ class I would take the regular one, so a D was passing, that’s good enough and that was my standard and once I elevated that standard it [got harder]. Towards the middle, it gets really tough [and] reaching excellence is not easy, it’s possible but it’s not easy,” Benjamin shared.
Benjamin didn’t miss out on the University’s library and took a short visit after he gave his career talk at the CMC Auditorium.
He said, “Since I graduated last 2012, it’s always nice [to go on campus tours] cause I miss school. I make it a point that [whenever] I visit, I can see the library.”
Ben also emphasized during his talk that the key to achieving excellence was to enjoy what you’re doing and be able to answer the question, “Why am I doing this?”
“I think you have to enjoy because if you're really trying to reach excellence you have to enjoy first because what’s the point of getting a great degree if you feel miserable about it.”
