As Billy Crawford’s grand concert nears, he and his crew are busy with rehearsals. iGMA sneaks a peek at the preparations to share some behind the stage info.
The countdown is on for Billy Crawford’s much anticipated concert on October 6 at the Araneta Coliseum. With less than two weeks before the grand event, Billy and his crew are busy with rehearsals. As iGMA sneaks a peek at the preparations, you are privy to this behind the stage info. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. “One, two, three, apat,” this is how Maryss from Paris instructs the Movers as they rehearse in a studio in Makati City. She is glad that her English directions, punctuated by the handful of Filipino words she has learned, are easily understood by the dancers. starsAs the primary choreographer of the show, she is asked about the Movers’ training so far. “They adapt really quickly. Now that they’ve been practicing with the other dancers of GMA, they even got better, you know? So, it just makes me happy to see how far they have gone,” she answers with a ready smile in spite of the sweat trickling down her forehead. They, including Billy, have to learn the steps to one song per day. So the rehearsals are rigorous. They start at 8 a.m. and dance until noon; start again at 1 p.m. and work until midnight with only a quick dinner and short water breaks in between. Billy would sometimes shatter the intensity of the workout with a much needed joke. Example, during a V-formation which Maryss was directing, he said, “Let’s volt in!” After a couple of laughs, they would labor once again. But then of course, it is not exactly work when one is fulfilling a dream. Living the Dream Billy shares, “this is my long time dream of coming back to my home country and doing a concert.” Billy and his Movers may be toiling day and night but the effort is more than worth it as the audience is definitely awaits with bated breath. What should they look forward to? Maryss is the lead choreographer, but her colleagues from overseas contributed to the routines. These include those who have choreographed with Janet Jackson, Usher, Omarian, Justin, Ciara, he stresses with a hint of pride. He adds, “basta lahat ng pinakamalakas (na dancers) doon sa States have worked with Maryss to contribute to this concert. We didn’t have enough to get them over here, because of Visa problems and they have work. People are on tour, you know? But it’s such a blessing because it has always pushed through.” Despite the challenges, Billy promises an excellent show with new and classic songs, and outrageous dances. The stage will shake and move. Can’t wait? Neither can Billy. Want a sample of Billy’s Moves? Watch these clips!
