A look back on some of BTS's achievements in the past decade
Since debuting in June 2013, South Korean supergroup BTS or Bangtan Sonyeondan has established themselves as a global phenomenon, with their influence extending beyond music.
With their heartfelt lyrics and genuine personalities, RM, Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook rose to global success and shattered historical records, both as a group and as individuals.
From topping music charts all over the world to being recognized by the South Korean government, BTS has gathered an impressive amount of career milestones in the past decade, securing their stature as a global force.

Rookie of the Year
BTS secured the “Rookie of the Year” Award at the Melon Music Awards (MMA) in 2016.
HYYH Pt. 2
BTS's album, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life Pt. 2, debuted at No. 171 on Billboard 200. They are the first K-pop act outside of the “Big 3” companies to be part of the list.
Daesang
In 2016, BTS clinched their first daesang for “Album of the Year” at the 2016 MMA. They also won the Artist of the Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.
Top Social Award
BTS was the first K-pop act to be nominated and to receive Billboard Music Awards's Top Social Artist Award in 2017.
DNA
BTS first entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their song "DNA," which debuted at No. 85 in 2017.
Order of Cultural Merit
In 2018, the members of BTS were awarded the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the South Korean government. They are the first idol group and the youngest to receive the award.
United Nations
BTS is the first Korean act to address the UN General Assembly in 2018. They spoke again in front of the UN in 2020 and 2021.
Sweep
In 2019, BTS made history after winning all four grand prizes or daesangs at MAMA. They also achieved a daesang sweep at MMA in the same year.
Billboard
BTS was the first Korean act to be nominated and to win the Top Duo/Group Award at the Billboard Music Awards in 2019.
Grammys
BTS currently has five Grammy nominations. They were also the first Korean group to perform at the awards show in 2020.
Charts
As a group, BTS has charted six No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 for the songs “Dynamite,” “Savage Love,” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” and “My Universe.”
Envoy
In 2021, South Korean President Moon Jae-in appointed BTS as “Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture.”
IFPI
BTS topped the Global Recording Artist Chart of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in 2020 and 2021.
Busan
BTS were appointed ambassadors for the World Expo Busan 2030 and consequently held a free concert in Busan in October 2022.
