Inspired by the Japanese TV series titled 'Monkey,' 'The New Legends of Monkey' earned a lot of viewership in New Zealand, Australia, the U.K., and South Africa.
It stars Luciane Buchanan as Tripitaka, Josh Thomson as Pigsy, Emilie Cocquerel as Sandy, and Chai Hansen as Monkey King.
The story begins 500 years ago when the Monkey King was put in prison beneath a mountain by his enemies in Heaven. Fast forward to present, the earth is in shambles and humans are oppressed by demons. The gods and immortals are in hiding and oppressed by the demons as well.
A scholar secretly makes a plan to gather warriors, along with a monk named Tripitaka. They go on a quest to free the Monkey King and find the Heavenly scrolls, which were stolen by the Monkey King 500 years ago and are hidden away somewhere on earth. Anyone who finds the precious scrolls would gain infinite power.

Monkey King
Thai-Australian actor Chai Hansen is the lead character named Monkey King, a stubborn yet selfless god who is put in exile.
Tripitaka
Tripitaka is a kindhearted girl, who is willing to risk everything for the resistance. She is played by Luciane Buchanan.
Pigsy
Pigsy is played by Josh Thompson. He's a big guy who saves Tripitaka despite being ordered to kill her.
Sandy
Sandy grew up being teased and ousted by her village, thinking she was a demon. She encounters the Monkey King who joins her in a journey to recover the sacred scrolls. Sandy is played by Emilie Cocquerel.
