TRIVIA: Fun facts about comedy star, Pokwang
Marietta Subong is now regarded as one of the top comedy stars in the Philippines.
People know her by her stage name, Pokwang. She got her big break in show business after winning the “Clown in a Million” segment of the now defunct gag show, 'Yes, Yes Show.'
Prior to pursuing a career as an entertainer, Pokwang worked in Japan as a dancer and choreographer.
Fast-forward to today, her name is at par with many female comedy legends like Aiai Delas Alas, Eugene Domingo, and Rufa Mae Quinto.
Throughout her career, she has proven her incredible comedy skills scoring one award after the other.
But aside from being an incredible comedienne, Pokwang relishes her job as a doting mother to her two children, Mae and Malia.
And to top it all off, she has found a long-time partner with her American boyfriend, Lee O' Brian.

Pokwang
Before people knew her as the funny Pokwang, Marietta Subong first worked as an overseas Filipino worker in the '90s. Pokwang worked as a dancer and choreographer in Japan and then moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to work as a domestic helper. The comedienne got her break after winning “Clown in a Million” in 2004.
Mae Subong
Prior to meeting her current partner, Pokwang gave birth to Ria Mae, her daughter with an ex Japanese partner, whom she had a relationship with in 1996.
Lee O' Brian
Cupid had other plans for Pokwang, however. In 2014 while shooting the film 'EDSA Woolworth,” she met her current partner, actor Lee O'Brian.
Malia
Pokwang welcomed a new addition to her beautiful family, after she gave birth to her second daughter, Malia, on January 18, 2018. She announced her pregnancy in June 2017.
TV shows
In her former home network, Pokwang showcased her talents in several TV shows like 'Aalog-alog', 'Mirabella', 'Toda Max', and the Sunday gag show, 'Banana Sundae.'
Movies
Pokwang was also tapped to do several films for the big screen namely 'D' Lucky Ones' (2006) and 'Cinco' (2010). She even got the chance to work with Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera in 'Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” (2010). In addition, the comedienne was also part of the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival entry 'Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity' starring Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza.
Awards
Pokwang has proven many times over that she's one of the best comedians. She won the PMPC Star Awards for TV Best Comedy Actress in 2007 and 2012. The comedy star was also recognized in 2014 and received the Bert Marcelo Lifetime Achievement Award. The year 2020 was extra special for Pokwang after she received the Dolphy King of Comedy Award in FAMAS.
In addition, Pokwang won the Best Actress award at the 6th Urduja Film Festival Heritage Film Awards 2019 for her performance in “Oda sa Wala.'

Marietta knows that showbiz is not forever so she decided to open her own food business.

At the age of 50, Pokwang is still one hot momma! She celebrated her 50th birthday in August 2020.

Her last hosting stint was on the morning talk show 'Chika, Besh!' with Pauleen Luna and Ria Atayde.
