After Philippines breached 100,000 cases of COVID-19, President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Sunday night, August 2, that he has decided to place Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) again from August 4 until August 18.
Prior to his announcement various medical associations pleaded to Duterte to implement the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) again in Metro Manila to slow down the skyrocketing number of coronavirus cases. This is also to give a break to healthcare workers who are already exhausted from treating such a huge number of patients.
