The world continues to be upended by the coronavirus pandemic, with more people contracting the virus as the days pass.
While many people, including a few celebrities and personalities, have been able to fully recover from the illness, some sadly haven't been as lucky.
These are the names of some of the most notable figures in show business and the media that we have lost and continue to mourn.
Menggie Cobarrubias
Veteran actor Domingo “Menggie” Cobarrubias died of pneumonia complications on March 26. His family was only able to confirm that his cause of death was the dreaded COVID-19 when they learned of the test result on March 30.
Joey Bautista
Joey Bautista, singer of the band Mulatto, passed away on March 19 due to pneumonia. A day after his death, his wife Belinda Bagatsing received the result of his COVID-19 test and confirmed that he was positive for the coronavirus disease.
Ken Shimura
Japanese comedian Ken Shimura passed away due to COVID-19. The 70-year-old actor was hospitalized on March 20 and he tested positive on March 23. His death was announced by his agency on March 30.
Ito Curata
Pinoy fashion designer Ito Curata succumbed to death on March 26 due to COVID-19 complications.
Joe Diffie
Country music artist Joe Diffie died of COVID-19 on March 29. Two days before his death, he was able to update his fans and followers about his health status.
Mark Blum
American actor Mark Blum passed on due to COVID-19 complications. The news of his death was made known on March 27 through a statement from the Screen Actors Guild.
Adam Schlesinger
Fountains of Wayne bassist and backing vocals Adam Schlesinger succumbed to COVID-19 complications on April 1. The rocker, whose band was best known for their hit single “Stacy's Mom,” passed away in a hospital in New York after being placed on a ventilator for two weeks.
Floyd Cardoz
'Top Chef Masters' Season 3 winner and the pioneer of Indian fine-dining in America, Chef Floyd Cardoz lost his life to COVID-19 on Mach 25. His last Instagram post, an update from his hospital bed, identified that he might have contracted the virus while en route to New York via Frankfurt, Germany from Mumbai, India.
Patricia Bosworth
American actress-turned-journalist-turned-author Patricia Bosworth died on April 2 due to pneumonia and complications from COVID-19. She was 86.
John Prine
Grammy-winning country folk singer John Prine was hospitalized on March 26. The 73-year-old singer-songwriter spent days in the ICU before succumbing to COVID-19 on April 7.
Leila Benitez-MccCollum
Legendary radio and TV personality Leila Benitez-McCollum was said to contract the new coronavirus disease while at a rehabilitation clinic in the US. She was moved to a hospital and shortly after tested positive for COVID-19. Leila, who was known as the First Lady of Philippine television, died on April 9 at the age of 89.
Former Senator Heherson Alvarez
Former Senator Heherson Alvarez and his wife Cecile Guidote-Alvarez were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive late in March. Cecile's health condition has improved, but the former senator has succumbed to death on April 20.
Manoling Morato
Manoling Morato, the former head of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), died on July 30 due to COVID-19. He was 87.
