History comes to life in an upcoming biographical film this year!

An exciting project is on its way for Sparkle artists Benjamin Alves and Therese Malvar as they set to star in a highly-anticipated historical movie.

TBA Studios has officially announced the production of Quezon, a biographical historical film that tells the story of Manuel L. Quezon, a Filipino lawyer and soldier who served as the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. The movie highlights his intense presidential campaign against Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippines.

Both Benjamin and Therese were thrilled to be part of this significant film. The Sparkle actress shared the exciting news with her followers on Instagram, posting a snapshot of her script and expressing her excitement. "Already had goosebumps just hearing everybody act out their characters from the table read. Can't wait for this film to come to life," she wrote.

Quezon marks the next chapter in TBA Studios' Bayaniverse, a cinematic universe of films based on Philippine history. It follows the success of Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral. Director and co-writer Jerrold Tarog, who helmed the previous films, will return to direct Quezon.

Production of the new historical film will begin in March 2025, with a target theatrical release later in the year.

According to the president and COO of TBA Studios, Daphne Chiu, the film will be released both locally and internationally. She also emphasized that Quezon will be a stand-alone film, allowing new audiences to enjoy it, while still being part of the larger cinematic continuity that includes Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.

The film is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), with the latter announcing its funding support for the project. This collaboration signals a shared commitment between TBA Studios, NCCA, and FDCP to strengthen the local film industry by creating and promoting world-class Filipino films.
