Sparkle warns people about scammers pretending to be Kyline Alcantara

Scammers pretending to be Kyline Alcantara are using Typhoon Carina to take money from unsuspecting people.

Unscrupulous individuals continue to take advantage of the goodwill of people for the victims of Typhoon Carina as Sparkle GMA Artist Center warns people that someone is using Kyline Alcantara's name to solicit donations.

The Sparkle GMA Artist Center uploaded a graphic on their official Instagram account warning people that fraudulent Viber messages were circulating. In the messages, the user pretends to be Sparkle artist Kyline Alcantara and solicits donations for victims of Typhoon Carina.

Sparkle advised people not to “respond or provide any personal information.” They also advised people to verify the sender's identity first and to “stay vigilant”.

Kyline is not the first celebrity scammers have tried to impersonate to trick people into donating for victims of Typhoon Carina. Miss World Philippines national director Arnold Vegafria took to social media last week to warn the public about people using his name and the Miss World Philippines organization to scam people during the aftermath of Typhoon Carina.

In a statement released on the different ALV Pageant Circle social media accounts, Vegafria warned that “unscrupulous individuals” have been using his name and social media platforms to “solicit donations on behalf of Miss World Philippines for the Typhoon Carina victims.”

Vegafria clarified that he is not asking for donations on his social media accounts and advised people to ignore any requests using his name. He also shared that he is “in the process of investigating this heinous cybercrime”.

Amid the scammers coming out, there has been an outpouring of help from celebrities to help the victims of Typhoon Carina recover. For instance, the Miss World Philippines organization and delegates participated in a relief operation in Brgy. Damayan Lagi, Quezon City.

Miss World Philippines Krishnah Gravidez also mobilized her non-government organization (NGO) Colors of Kindness to hand out relief goods to victims of Typhoon Carina in Centella, Brgy. San Isidro, Montalban, Rizal. The residents received 150 relief packs from the NGO. The relief packs contained rice, canned goods, noodles, and sacks of dog & cat food.

Kapuso beauty queen and Philippine Red Cross ambassador Michelle Dee also boosted the efforts of the Philippine Red Cross on her Instagram account and called on her followers to do what they can to help “recover and rebuild”.
