John Lloyd Cruz and Ellen Adarna worked together in a sitcom back in November 2016, but both claim that they met long before that. According to the two, Ellen was still in high schoolwhen John Lloyd visited her hometown for a mall show.

In the earlier part of 2017, John Lloyd and Ellen denied rumors of a romance between them. At the time, Ellen was reportedly in a relationship with the presidential son, Baste Duterte.Their relationship was said to be brief, lasting only until December 2016, or sometime before John Lloyd came into the picture. John Lloyd was officially single but was linked to his perennial leading lady Bea Alonzo around April 2016.

It was March 2017 when John Lloyd and Ellen visited Ilocos Norte with some showbiz and non-showbiz friends. While there, they celebrated the engagement of Ellen's close friend Beauty Gonzalez to Norman Crisologo. They also became godparents to Beauty and Norman's first child, Olivia.
Bantayan Island
Dating rumors between the two were refueled in September 2017 after Ellen posted photos of them walking hand in hand and cuddling in Bantayan Island. However, it was a video of John Lloyd during that trip that went viral and unfortunately thrust them into the spotlight for the wrong reasons. In the video that has since been deleted, the actor was seen acting strange, leading to speculations that either the actor was very drunk or high.

Because of this, John Lloyd's management Star Magic did not have a choice but to issue a statement about him. "JLC works hard as an actor... 18 hr. days at a stretch. He was just letting off some steam. In this age of an all pervasive social media, what is ok and innocent in private becomes worthlessly controversial in public. He will have learned his lesson and be more careful in the future,” says manager Johnny Manahan.

Come September 28, both Ellen and John Lloyd have deleted photos of each other from their Instagram accounts, leading to speculations of a breakup.

In October 2017, John Lloyd posted a photo of him and Ellen taking a stroll as if to quash breakup rumors. A little later, he uploaded another photo of them having dinner. Meanwhile, Ellen shared an Instagram story of them waking up in bed together.

Soon after, his home network made a statement about John Lloyd. "ABS-CBN and John Lloyd Cruz have agreed for him to take an indefinite leave of absence to attend to personal matters. John Lloyd will be taking a break outside the country and will return to ABS-CBN after his leave of absence," reads a statement from Kane Errol Choa, ABS-CBN's Head for Integrated Corporate Communications.

John Lloyd and Ellen then left the country and went to Morocco. Around this time, veteran newscaster Jay Sonza joined the mix, claiming that his niece "Elena" is pregnant and is currently in Morocco. Ellen denied that she is related to Jay and continued to vacation with John Lloyd in France and Switzerland.

Pregnancy rumors came out in November 2017. Ellen was scheduled to walk the ramp at Bench's yearly fashion show but opted out. John Lloyd was reportedly in the US to visit relatives.

That same month, Ellen was spotted in an airport in Mactan wearing an oversized shirt and what appeared to be a baby bump. She again wore another oversized top during her birthday bash in Cebu on March 2018. John Lloyd posted a photo of a crib on April 2018.

A netizen claimed in April 2018 that Ellen has given birth at a hospital in Singapore. However, photos of a visibly pregnant Ellen vacationing in Palawan made rounds online around May 2018.

In May of 2018, Ellen took a video of her and John Lloyd's alleged paparazzi who happens to be a minor. The mom of the minor, Myra Santos, demanded a public apology and later on filed for a child abuse case against Ellen.
Confirmation
One of Ellen's lawyers, Atty. Rene "Rebo" Saguisag Jr. confirmed the actress' pregnancy in June 2018. He cited Ellen's "delicate pregnancy" as well as the recent death of her father as reasons why she could not attend the hearings of her "paparazzi case."

In late June 2018, rumors once again circulated implying that Ellen had already given birth to a baby boy in a Cebu hospital. John Lloyd dismissed these as "fake news."
