From 'Full House' to 'Descendants of the Sun,' nothing beats a classic. That's why we often see them get remakes over and over again. Let's take a look at the dramas Pinoys considered as cult classics on television screens.
Full House
The original 2004 KBS2 hit, 'Full House,' was considered the pioneer of 'romantic comedy' genre in Korean Drama. It was such a great success in Asia that it helped propel the Korean wave. In the same year, GMA remade the series and featured Heart Evangelista and Richard Gutierrez as its lead actors.
Marimar
A triple threat! The original 1994 Thalia classic telenovela was remade in 2007 featuring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, sealing their titles as Queen and King of Primetime TV. By 2015, it aired in our TV sets once again as Megan Young and Tom Rodriguez takes the role of Marimar and Sergio.
Ako si Kim Samsoon
The 2008 GMA drama rom-com features Regine Velasquez as the bubbly pastry chef. The remake was an adaptation of the 2005 MBC series, 'My Lovely Sam Soon.'
Lalola
How could we forget 'Lalola'? The tv drama fantasy comedy series that starred Rhian Ramos as Lolita and JC de Vera as Facundo was a hit back in 2008. It is, of course, adapted from the 2007 Argentine television series of the same title.
Rosalinda
Another Thalia classic that was featured on our screens back in 1999. It also became Carla Abellana's first role when they created a remake in 2009.
Endless Love
This romance drama series continued Marian and Dingdong's streak as Queen and King of Primetime. It is an adaptation of the 2000 Korean TV series, 'Autumn in my Heart.'
Stairway to Heaven
Every K-drama aficionado will always have 'Stairway to Heaven' in their must-watch list. So, when Rhian Ramos and Dingdong Dantes starred in the 2010 adaptation, it received so much praise and was broadcast internationally.
Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin
The 2001 Pinoy drama gave birth to the unforgettable Angelika dela Cruz-Sunshine Dizon tandem. The roles were then reprised by Barbie Forteza and Joyce Ching in 2011, a decade after the original was released.
Sana ay Ikaw na Nga
'Sana ay Ikaw na Nga' is another original Pinoy Drama romance series that starred Tanya Garcia and Dingdong Dantes back in 2001. In 2012, the series was remade and features Mikael Daez and Andrea Torres as the protagonists of the story.
Coffee Prince
The South Korean series tells the story of an unlikely romance between a tomboyish woman, who dresses like a man in order to get work, and a young food mogul. By 2012, GMA remade the series and featured Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica.
Temptation of Wife
Also called as 'Lure of Wife,' this K-drama that was aired in 2008 became one of the most popular and highly watched dramas in South Korea. By 2010, the series was remade featuring Marian Rivera, Dennis Trillo, Glaiza de Castro, and Rafael Rosell. The series became a huge success it was aired again in 2011.
Anna Karenina
In 1996, GMA premiered its drama series 'Anna Karenina' featuring Antoinette Taus, Sunshine Dizon, and Kim delos Santos. By 2013, it received a remake, featuring Barbie Forteza, Joyce Ching, and Krystal Reyes as the lead actresses.
Villa Quintana
'Villa Quintana' is an original Pinoy drama romance series that starred Donna Cruz and Keempee De Leon in 1995. It had a total of 318 episodes and won many accolades, including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actor. In 2013, the story came alive again, this time, featuring Janine Gutierrez and Elmo Magalona as the star-crossed lovers Lynette and Isagani.
Mga Batang Yagit
This drama series originally aired in 1983. It was adapted into a film in 1984. By 2014, an afternoon television series carrying the same title made it on the airwaves. The latest version featured child actors Chlaui Malayao, Zymic Jaranilla, and Judie Dela Cruz.
My Love From The Star
In 2013, SBS aired the K-Drama 'My Love From the Star' which features an ensemble cast starring Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Soo Hyun, Park Hae Jin. A Philippine remake was produced by the Kapuso Network starring Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva. The series was under the direction of Joyce Bernal and was released on May 29, 2017.
