Catriona Gray continues to highlight Philippine culture and heritage at Miss Universe pre-pageant competition, this time through her national costume called Luzviminda.
LUZVIMINDA
Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray's national costume represents the three regions of the country--Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao.
CHRISTMAS LANTERN
“The island group of Luzon is represented by the world-renowned “Parol/Christmas Lantern” from Pampanga,” says fashion designer Jearson Demavivas about Catriona's huge colorful backdrop.
BRASS BORDER
The brass-designed border around the parol-like backdrop was made in Apalit, Pampanga. According to Catriona's mentor, Carlos Buendia, Jr.: “It was inspired by designs from the Philippine baroque churches that were declared as UNESCO Heritage Sites."
LUPANG HINIRANG
Buendia further noted on his IG post, “The back of the PAROL is a PAINTING with INSCRIPTION of the lyrics from “LUPANG HINIRANG,” the Philippines's National Anthem written in Baybayin."
PINTADOS-INSPIRED BODY SUIT
The island group of Visayas is represented by Catriona's body suit. According to Demavivas, “[The] authentic 'tattoo designs' that were embellished with crystals derived from patterns used by 'PINTADOS' who are indigenous peoples found in various islands in this part of the Philippines.
TATTOOS
Demavivas further explained, “The tattoos represent an individual's journey and a public testimony recounting acts of combat, bravery, and strength that perfectly represents that courageous and resilient Filipino spirit amidst trials we face.”
T'BOLI HEADDRESS
Catriona's headdress represents Mindanao. It's an authentic piece from the province of South Cotabato.
