Michael de Mesa clarifies Cherie Gil's final resting place
It's not easy to lose someone and when you do, you'd want to have a place to visit them and reminisce about the times you're together. This is why Michael de Mesa clarified where exactly his sister Cherie Gil's final resting place is.
In an Instagram post, Michael posted a message clarifying Cherie's final resting place when a report said that she was buried in Bukidnon after actor Markus Paterson visited the province to pay his respects.
He clarified that while Bukidnon was her favorite place, “she is not buried there.”
“Cherie was cremated in New York. Most of her remains are with our other sister, Elaine, in California. Part of her is with my parents who are also in California and some are here with my wife and I,” the actor said.
The veteran actor, however, confirmed that some of her ashes are scattered in Bukidnon.
He also added that some of her ashes are with her children.
In a separate post, Michael expressed how he missed her sister but acknowledged that she is now with their brother Ralph, actor Mark Gil.
“I know you were with us -- smiling, crying, and laughing at the beautiful memories we shared of you with each other,” he said.
“We love you, Cherie!” he added, ending his post.
Mark passed away on Sept 1, 2014, at the age of 52. Cherie, meanwhile, passed away on August 5, 2022 at the age of 59.
On September 2, the Eigenmann clan reunited to celebrate Cherie's life as well as Mark's eighth death anniversary in Tagaytay.
Cherie was known as the La Primera Contravida for the iconic villainous roles she played over the years. This includes Lavinia from the 1985 film Bituin Walang Ningning opposite Sharon Cuneta.
