Jaclyn bested international and acclaimed stars namely, Marion Cotillard and Isabelle Huppert from France, Oscar winner Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart.

Jaclyn Jose made history for being the first Filipina to take home the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, and the veteran actress didn’t even expect this happening.

She began her speech, “I am so surprised. I just went to have the red carpet walk with my daughter (Andi Eigenmann), my real-life daughter and my daughter in the movie also.”

 “I would also like to share this recognition to all the Filipinos who are here now, to my daughter, to [Direk] Brillante (Mendoza), to my countrymen, to the Philippines. Thank you, Mr. President, thank you to all the jury. Thank you so much for loving our work. Thank you so much,” she continued.

According to the report on 24 Oras, Jaclyn’s outstanding performance in her title role in Mendoza’s Ma’ Rosa made her beat international and acclaimed stars namely, Marion Cotillard and Isabelle Huppert from France, Oscar winner Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart.

She admitted, “When I saw the line-up I said, ‘Oh, they are all my idols. They are all good.” I was just watching and enjoying the moment when they called my name. I got surprised and got emotional.”

“Who will not get emotional? This is Cannes Film Festival. This is big, I mean especially in my country. Not anyone can have a [chance in the] competition here, or be nominated as best actress. So this is big in my country right now,” she further said.
