Yesterday, September 18, actor Derek Ramsay had a closed door meeting with his estranged wife, Mary Christine Jolly and their 11-year old son at the Makati Prosecutor's Office for the preliminary investigation of the case filed against Ramsay.
Jolly accused Ramsay of violating Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act and filed a case against him.
Upon seeing each other, Ramsay and his estranged son shook hands. However, a few minutes into the closed door session of the preliminary investigation, Ramsay's son got emotional and had to step out of the Prosecutor's office in tears.
According to Jolly, their son wanted to accompany her in submitting her reply affidavit. The child also wanted to submit a letter stating how he felt towards his father, and a drawing depicting Ramsay in jail.
Jolly no longer submitted her reply affidavit because after the preliminary investigation, Ramsay and Jolly were given time to talk to each other in private.
Jolly told Nelson Canlas of 24 Oras, "I think we just let out a lot of baggage from the past that needed to be let out before we wanna move on, and I'm glad that it's resolved."
Ramsay also got the chance to talk to his son privately.
He said, "If I need to maintain a good relationship with her… I've been trying. I will do it. I will do it for my boy. Like I said, this is for him and he shouldn't be seeing all of this."
Following the preliminary investigation, publicizing statements from documents submitted by both Ramsay and Jolly to the fiscal is now prohibited.
There is a possibility that in the end, the estranged couple will reach an amicable settlement.
Makati Assistant Prosecutor Hon. Erwin Dimayacyac said, "Pag-uusapan doon sa agreement nila 'yung support, 'yung annulment, 'yung visitation rights at saka 'yung pang citizenship."
