Heroes unite in 'Sunday All Stars'

Last Sunday, the theme for Sunday All Stars was ‘Hero’.

Tropang Trending showcased a different side of what a hero is. Real life heroes were invited and highlighted. Among them are Joven Mallo (Torch Bearer 2012 Olympics), Chris ‘Kesz’ Valdez (International Childrens’ Peace Prize awardee), Mark David Cerezo (2012 Pinoy awardee) and Efren Penaflorida, Jr. (2009 CNN Hero of the Year). It made the audience teary-eyed upon seeing the sacrifices that our real heroes made in our society. This won them Best Team Performance for the second time.

There were guest judges as well. Joey de Leon and Pops Fernandez filled in for Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and made interesting remarks to the performances this week.

Joey de Leon expressed his excitement to see the live performances of each team. He also revealed that he always watch Sunday All Stars at home.”As a matter of fact, nuong first day pa lang nakiki-judge na ako sa bahay namin, eh. Mas ito, maganda, live ito!”

Pops Fernandez was impressed with the talented Kapuso artists. ” They’re gonna be in front of us. Judging from the opening [number], sobrang exciting,” she exclaims.

Team InstaGang was the first to perform. Winwyn Marquez was appointed by Christian Bautista to lead the group since he won’t be able perform that day. One of InstaGang members celebrated his birthday in Sunday All Stars. Jake Vargas’ birthday wish was to win the celebrity showdown. The members, together with their team leader, joined forces to grant Jake’s wish but still fell short.

As for Tweet Hearts, another unique interpretation took place. It made people nostalgic upon seeing the Encantadia, Mulawin and Super Twins outfits. The audience was truly amazed seeing how well it was executed.

Ligang iLike also gave their best shot. They had added a different flavor on stage. It was a comedy musical with heroes singing and dancing while saving those who are in need of their help. The audience enjoyed the show laughing their hearts out.

But in the end, Tropang Trending's gimmick won the judges and viewers over. The Best Performer was bagged by Winwyn Marquez of InstaGang.

Next week, there will be a different twist to the celebrity showdown in Sunday All Stars. The team leaders were shuffled. Tropang Trending will be led by Mark Herras. Ligang iLike will be headed by Louise delos Reyes. Julie Anne San Jose will lead Tweet Hearts. And lastly, InstaGang will be led by Glaiza de Castro.
