Explore the dark side of Manila with this Halloween virtual tour

For all its glory, past and present, the city of Manila remains shrouded in mystery.

Dark tales abound in its every corner, stories from the Spanish era to post-World War II period. After the Second World War, the city was left in ruins and filled with the “stench of the dead” as the Japanese occupiers retreated in the face of impending defeat from advancing American troops.

Needless to say, Manila's history is tainted with violence and death that to this day tickles the fancy and elicits fear in people's consciousness.

And what better way to retrace Manila's dark secrets than on Halloween?

Leading the way is WanderManila, the same team that organized the virtual Halloween tour of Intramuros in 2020, the tour commemorating the infamous Battle of Manila in February this year, and the Trese online trip in July.

The tour dubbed "One Night in Manila" will put the spotlight on places around the country's capital with eerie reputations.

“This year, we're stepping outside Intramuros to explore the darker histories behind some of Manila's more iconic places and structures,” WanderManila wrote on Facebook.

“Manila's history has its share of violence and blood, of strife and death, and these acts echo well into the present, manifesting in various ways.

“The smell of flowers when there are none, the mysterious footsteps in an empty building, the shadowy figures at the corner of your eye.”

The free online tour will be streamed on WanderManila's Facebook page on October 30 at 9:00 p.m.
