Sunshine Cruz is currently in the spotlight after business tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang confirmed that they are in a relationship.
Sunshine's love story can be described as a “roller coaster of emotion,” especially after her split with action star Cesar Montano.
For a few years, it seemed that the pain of their breakup was insurmountable, but many were surprised when Sunshine and Cesar were seen together during the 18th birthday of their daughter Sam in 2022.
Sharing the happy moment on Instagram, the actress wrote then, “In God's perfect time,”

Cesar Montano
At the age of 23, Sunshine Cruz tied the knot with Cesar Montano, 38, on September 14, 2000. Their marriage blessed them with three beautiful daughters namely, Angelina, Samantha, and Chesca.
Split with Cesar
Unfortunately, life had other plans for both Sunshine and Cesar. The two parted ways in 2013 and in a report by PEP.PH, Sunshine filed a petition to annul their marriage in May 2014.
Four years later in September 2018, they got the news that their marriage has been annulled by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC).
Reconciliation
For several years, it seems reconciling with Cesar will never happen. But in 2022, everyone was happy to see the ex-couple reunite during Sam's 18th birthday.
In an interview with Karen Davila, Sunshine said that she felt “no more pain” after meeting Cesar in the birthday event.
“Wala nang pain eh. Nakakatuwa kasi ang dami ng magagandang kwento ng mga bata pagdating sa partner niya. Na napakabait daw ni Kath, napakaganda, napaka-sweet. More than anything, yung excitement na makikita ko sila, yun ang naramdaman ko,”
“Bigla na lang nagising ako na okay na eh. Tapos na. Bakit kailangan maging bitter? Bakit kailangan magkaroon ng galit sa puso? E ito ako, happy ako. Mga anak ko puro honor students. Mga anak ko mababait,”
Macky Mathay
While in the process of annulling her marriage, Sunshine met Macky Mathay and the two started dating in 2016.
Macky is the half-brother of versatile actress Ara Mina.
Relationship with Macky
Some would say that Sunshine and Macky is an ideal couple and is a source of inspiration for others who have a blended family setup. Just like the actress, Macky has three children too.
On the rocks
It seems "happy ever after" will elude Sunshine again, after reports circulated that her five-year relationship is on the rocks.
In September 2022, many entertainment sites and showbiz blogs noticed that Sunshine and Macky, who is now a councilor in San Juan City have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Further fueling speculations about Sunshine and Macky's relationship, the 'Unbreak My Heart' actress posted a cryptic message on her Instagram in October 2022 about letting go.
“People come and go, it may be hard to understand why things happen unexpectedly. For some of us, letting go of someone you loved with all your heart can definitely give us so much pain and sadness but in life, there are some things we cannot control. What matters is the lesson we learned, the love that was shared and the wonderful memories that will always be in our hearts. Life goes on.”
Fast-forward to 2023, Sunshine opened up with the 'King of Talk' Boy Abunda,' why she decided to keep mum on her breakup with San Juan City councilor Mathay.
Sunshine explained to Tito Boy: “I chose to be quiet because mayroong mga bata na involved. Mga anak niya na napamahal sa akin and 'yung mga anak ko na napamahal kay Macky. Nag-decide ako na maging quiet na lang kasi hindi naman talaga alam ng publiko kung ano 'yung pinagdadaanan namin or kung ano 'yung pinagdaanan ko,”
Atong Ang
Before the end of 2024, Atong Ang shocked many by confirming his romantic involvement with Sunshine on the Bilyonaryo News Channel.
Prior to the confirmation, Sunshine and Atong were seen in a video kissing, which went viral online.
