'Trese' billboards get 'vandalized' by aswangs? Netizens react
The social media community was abuzz after photos of what appears to be vandalized billboards promoting Netflix's upcoming anime series went viral on the internet.
The popular streaming platform posted pictures on Facebook on Monday, June 7, showing promotional billboards of Trese defaced and spray-painted with the words “layas” and “siyudad namin 'to.”
Trese is the anime adaptation of the Filipino graphic novel of the same name created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
The Netflix series features the voices of Liza Soberano and Filipino-Canadian Shay Mitchell.
Trese is a dark fantasy that incorporates Filipino folklore and mythology in its horror-crime narrative.
“What kind of monster would do this? If you see something, say something - we're going to find out who did this,” Netflix posted on Facebook accompanied with pictures of the vandalized billboards.
Netflix then shared a collage of grainy videos showing apparent supernatural beings tarnishing the billboards in the evening.
Amused netizens, meanwhile, applauded Netflix for coming with a clever publicity gimmick to drum up interest in the anime series.
