By Racquel Quieta
See the colorful trailer of musical drama 'Music' directed by singer-songwriter Sia, and starring Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Maddie Ziegler.

Sia Furler is known for the many feats she has achieved in her career in music, from countless hits by other singers that she had written to her own chart-topping and award-winning songs.

The Australian singer-songwriter has also done some voice acting and cameos in films and TV shows. And has also directed her own music video for "Chandelier."

But this year, she's outdoing herself by releasing a film that she had co-written, produced, and directed.

Sia recently dropped the trailer for her directorial debut titled Music, starring Academy Award nominee Kate Hudson, Grammy and Tony Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr. and her protégé Maddie Ziegler, who plays the title role.

Kate plays the lead character of Kazu Gamble, a drug dealer who struggles to get sober as she becomes the sole guardian of her half-sister named Music, who has autism.

Kazu then turns to her neighbor named Ebo, played by Hamilton star Leslie, for some help in her recovery journey and taking care of her sister.

The screenplay for Music was co-written by Sia and children's book author Dallas Clayton.

It was based on a one-page story that Sia had written way back in 2007.

It's initial working title was "Sister" and was supposed to be a non-musical film.

They later changed their mind and turned it into a musical and settled for the title Music.

Aside from co-writing, producing and directing the film, Sia also produced and wrote some songs for the movie's soundtrack titled Music - Songs from and Inspired by the Motion Picture.

The album track list shows a total of 16 tracks, and 10 of them are reportedly new written by Sia.

The soundtrack also includes "Saved My Life," a song that Sia had co-written with "Don't Start Now" and "Break My Heart" singer Dua Lipa.

Sia released the music video of the album's lead single "Together" back in May 20, 2020, which features the cast of Music performing the song.

Maddie Ziegler, one of the stars in Music and an alumna of the reality show Dance Moms, has appeared in several Sia music videos, including "'Chandelier," "Cheap Thrills," "The Greatest," and "Thunderclouds."

That's why it's no surprise that Maddie became part of Sia's directorial debut film's cast.

Sia had always been open about her past struggle with drug addiction, as depicted in her hit song "Chandelier."

Through the years, Sia has continuously offered inspiration and motivation for recovering addicts.

She's also known for always tweeting “I love you. Keep going.” to show support for people who are on their sobriety journey.

So, the story of Music is actually something that's really close to Sia's heart, and it's interesting to see how Kate, Leslie, and Maddie will bring this to life on the film.

The film will be played in select Imax theaters on February 10 and will be available on-demand on February 12, same day as the release of the album.
