Tech vlogging titan Carlo Ople suffers setback, online merch business gutted by fire in Bulacan
The year 2021 didn't start out the way tech vlogger Carlo Ople wanted it to be after his online merch business suffered a huge setback during the last days of December 2020.
In a vlog entry, he uploaded on the first day of January, Carlo revealed that the warehouse where his merch products are stored was gutted by a fire. This warehouse is located in Marilao, Bulacan.
Carlo began his vlog saying, “A few days ago there was a news item. There were warehouses in Bulacan that unfortunately got burned down.
“Now, the good thing [was] no one got hurt--walang nasaktan...but everything in the warehouses [was] completely wiped out.
“Sunog, ubos, simhot, abo!”
He added, “It's kinda frustrating because, most of you probably know that we have a merch brand on the channel--Project 71.
“We come out with shirts, we come out of socks, we come out with side bags and alam mo 'yun pahabol talaga ng 2020, e.
“Unfortunately, one of the warehouses that got burned down, our stocks were actually there. So, the [warehouse was] one of our fulfillment partners for the online shop, of our e-commerce store. In short, ubos lahat!”
The popular vlogger and businessman went on to share to his YouTube subscribers that life is not always perfect and like everyone, he also experiences failure.
Carlo explained, “I wanted to make a video about this because I usually just show you the good thing. I show you the successful part of business and sabihin natin the sneaker world, and the hype world. But I really wanted to show you how I deal with failure and how I deal with setbacks, how I deal with challenges like this.”
In addition, he also imparted one lesson he learned from his late grandfather senator Blas Ople.
“If there's one big lesson that I learned from my mentors, my late grandfather who used to be a senator [Blas Ople] and secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines is that success is not defined--you becoming successful is not really just all about the hard work that you put in, but equally just as important how you respond when you fail.”
People know Carlo Ople as a successful vlogger but unknown to many, he had failed in the past. He shared in the vlog that he made a bad business decision before that left a lasting impact on how he handle his finances.
“This has happened to me before na mayroon ako negosyo nalugi siya at sobra akong nadurog, sobra talaga akong nalungkot bordering depression.
“And if there's one thing I learned noon is that you should never put your eggs in one basket. Hindi lang puwedeng iisa lang pinagkikitaan mo.
“Hindi puwedeng iisang source lang ang income mo. That's why today, when this happened I was kinda prepared, because I learned from my mistakes in the past. I do not have that business as just my one source of income.
“I have a job. I have three digital businesses. I have a digital talent management agency. I have a content company. I'm into the stock market,”
“That plan of creating multiple streams of income is because of that one mega business failure that I had in the past.”
