The MariMar Fever has hit viewers across the archipelago, but no one has been hit as hard as the star of the show herself, Marian Rivera.
The MariMar Fever has hit viewers across the archipelago, but no one has been hit as hard as the star of the show herself, Marian Rivera. Read on to find out just how much Marian’s life had changed since she splashed on small screens as MariMar! Text by Jason John S. Lim. With interviews by Alula Love M. Dela Cruz. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
From lead roles in afternoon soaps like
Pinakamamahal and
Muli, Marian Rivera surprised television audiences with her sympathetic character from the primetime hit
Super Twins. But it wasn’t until she danced her way into the most coveted
MariMar role that she showed everyone how good an actress she is.
Marian Fever
After playing the naïve MariMar, and now the more street-wise Bella Aldama, Marian has shown flexibility and passion in her acting that draws viewers in. Viewers can also translate to readers and consumers, and thus a Marian era had begun in the commercial world.

“This week or next week, [lalabas na ‘yung] Manual magazine,” Marian enthusiastically said during a chat with iGMA less than a month ago. “Pero ang mas bonggang-bongga, [‘yung] Preview magazine. Imagine-in mo, lahat ng Louis Vuitton! Damit, bag, accessories, minodel ko sa kanila! Bonggang-bongga!”
Other than magazine spreads and features, Marian also began to appear in numerous TV commercials and other print-ads: Maxi-Peel, PLDT, and most recently Del Monte’s Fit and Right, to name a few. And of course, Marian told iGMA, she is still receiving other offers.
Effects of MariMar
“Aliw lang,” Marian said of the offers that had begun to come in after her debut as the seductive
MariMar. Still down-to-earth, Marian revealed that nothing has changed in her life -- except that she gets noticed a lot.
Marian shared that during one of her tapings for
Desperadas, people didn’t immediately flock to her when they heard that Marian Rivera was in the shoot. But when they found out that Marian and the Filipino
MariMar were one and the same, people started taking photos and asking for autographs.
Being recognized as
MariMar instead of as Marian wasn’t (and isn't) a problem for the actress. “Siyempre malaki talaga ‘yung nabago [nito] sa buhay ko. Sobrang laki.”
After MariMar
With
MariMar continuing its skyrocketing ratings, there’s no doubt that Marian had made an imprint in the viewing public’s lives. But what will happen to the actress once her current show makes it final bow?

“Alam ko meron [nag susunod na project],” Marian finally revealed after many pleadings. But the actress refused to divulge any more than the fact that that. “Tsaka hindi ko rin alam kung kailangan ko bang mag-audition ulit or ipi-pinpoint na lang.
“Pero I’m sure naman [na] after this, meron naman sana, Lord!”
