The series tells the story of Mariposa (Barbie), who belongs to the kingdom of the butterfly people, known the Paroa. While she is of a magical race, Mariposa grows up in the human world because her kingdom is destroyed by overzealous scientists. Her mother Aurora (Tanya), the queen of the Paroa, saves her but is unable to stay by her side. She disappears during a chase and it is unknown is she continues to live.
Mariposa grows up under the care of the human Amalia (Agot) who treats her as her own child despite her strange skin deformity (Mariposa’s skin is similar to a higad or furry caterpillar). Despite people making fun of her because of her looks, Mariposa will still have a cheerful and optimistic disposition. However, her life will change when she transforms into a beautiful Paroa.
Meanwhile, a boy named Inigo (Derrick) grows up hating the Paroas because his mother Rosanna (Alicia) raises him that his father died because of these mythical creatues. He and Mariposa’s are schoolmates and even become friends despite his bad-boy image. But because of peer pressure he will also mock and make fun of Mariposa in an attempt to fit in.
When Mariposa transforms into a beautiful Paroa, Inigo will develop feelings towards her not knowing that she is the same girl he mocked. He also has no idea that she is actually a Paroa, the creature he is raised to hate.
With Mariposa’s transformation into a beautiful Paroa, she will face the biggest decisions in life. Choices must be made and loyalties will be tested. Will someone so young be able to handle the twists that life has set in front of her?
Under the direction of Mark Reyes, Paroa, Ang Kuwento Ni Mariposa premieres November 5 right before 24 Oras on GMA Early Prime block.
