IN PHOTOS: Renovated home of Maggie Wilson-Consunji's parents
Maggie Wilson-Consunji may have first made a name for herself as a TV personality and beauty queen, who represented the Philippines in the 2007 Miss World beauty pageant.
But after graduating from the SoFa Design Institute and establishing her own furniture and décor store Acasa Manila (formerly Casa Consunji) in 2018, Maggie has been flexing her interior design prowess.
In her YouTube channel called Acasa Living, Maggie shared the wonderful renovation story of her parents' home here in the Philippines.
According to Maggie, the whole process had been painstakingly long due to the ongoing pandemic. Nevertheless, she's happy with how everything turned out.
“I may no longer be living with my parents -I haven't been for a while now--but by redesigning their home, I sort of left a little piece of me for them to come home to.”
Maggie's mother, Sonia Nales-Wilson, is also delighted with the renovation and redesign work that their daughter has done for their home.
“The new transformation of this house makes it more relaxing since Maggie did a lot.”
Take a peek into the beautiful transformation of Maggie Wilson-Consunji's parents' home in this photo gallery.
Maggie Wilson-Consunji and her mom
In her latest vlog, Maggie Wilson-Consunji and her mother, Sonia Nales-Wilson, narrated their experience in renovating the 75-square-meter home of her parents.
Wilson House
According the Maggie, her mom and dad decided to just let Sonia stay in Manila so she can spend more time with her apo, Connor. So, she moved into the said home.
First floor (Before renovation)
This is what the first floor of the house used to look like. Maggie said it used to be so dark and felt very stuffy and small. So, she felt like the space wasn't being used to its full potential.
First floor (After renovation)
Here's what the first floor looks like after renovation. Maggie's main goal was to create more space, brighten it up, make it feel bigger than it really is, and maximize its functionality.
Open plan
Here's a view of half of the ground floor area from another angle. Open floor plans such as this give the illusion of space and an abundance of natural light.
Kitchen (After)
The house now has a brighter, modern minimalist look. The kitchen island serves a dual purpose since it has a sink on one side and a casual dining or prep area on the other side.
Wood counters
One of the important things that Maggie addressed in the renovation project was the old wood counters in the old design of the kitchen. According to Maggie, wood isn't ideal to use in kitchen counters because they get molded over time if they are often wet and not well taken care of.
Light well (After)
According to Maggie, the light well is actually a provision for an elevator that they eventually plan to put, for when her parents start to have difficulty walking up and down the stairs due to old age.
Other side of living area
They have a huge window right next to their TV, which serves as a source of natural light for the ground floor.
Master bedroom (after)
The modern minimalist theme of the house continues in the bedrooms, including the master bedroom. Maggie had to extend the room on one side so she could move the bed to that side.
Master bedroom couch
Maggie added a couch so her parents can watch TV or as she says, “Watch Netflix and chill.”
Pull-out bed
Maggie placed a pull-out bed in the guest room so they can accommodate more guests during sleepovers.
Mirror
Maggie revealed that placing a mirror in a small room is a clever way to make it look bigger, as it gives the illusion of more space.
Guest room balcony (After)
So, Maggie turned it to something more functional: a walk-in closet!
Third floor room (Before)
Maggie also built another room on the third floor of the house. Here's what it used to look like during construction.
Third floor room (After)
And here's what it looks like now. Maggie decided to leave the space empty so she and her father can work on it together. She mentioned that they had a lot of things that are arabesque, so it'll probably be used to house their collection.
