Chadwick Boseman, the Hollywood actor best known for his iconic portrayal of the Marvel superhero Black Panther has sadly passed away on August 28, 2020, after silently battling colon cancer for four years.
The American actor had played several historical figures in movies such as American baseball player Jackie Robison, the Godfather of Soul James Brown, and former Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Thurgood Marshall.
However, it was Chadwick's role as T'Challa, king of Wakanda, more popularly known as the superhero Black Panther, that catapulted him to fame.
He first appeared as Black Panther in 2016 in the Marvel film 'Captain America: Civil War.'
In 2018, he top-billed the critically acclaimed 'Black Panther' film, which focused on his character and the kingdom of Wakanda.
His performance here has earned him several acting awards. including the 2018 Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero awards at the MTV Movie and TV Awards and the 2019 Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture award at the NAACP Image Awards.
He reprised his role as Black Panther in the 'Avengers: Infinity Wars' film in 2018 and 'Avengers: Endgame' movie in 2019.
Chadwick also starred in the action thriller film '21 Bridges' in 2019 and in the Netflix drama film 'Da 5 Bloods,' released only last June.
A 'Black Panther' sequel was scheduled to be released in May 2022 and it would have been Chadwick's fifth Marvel film. No word yet on the future of the said movie, as fans and people in the entertainment industry are still in shock and mourning his untimely passing.
For now, many are celebrating his life and his heroism on and off cam -as the first African-American superhero young people look up to and as a real-life hero to kids who were also fighting cancer as he did.

Sketch-to-print artist Wilberth Gonzalez from New York drew Chadwick in his Black Panther costume walking side-by-side with other celebrities who also passed away this year, including NBA legend Kobe Bryant, 'Glee' star Naya Rivera, and Ru Paul's Drag Race queen Chi Chi DeVayne.
