'Stranger Things' star Millie Bobby Brown calls out critics for 'dissecting' her face, body
Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown just clapped back at her critics.
On Instagram, the 21-year-old actress shared a video responding to negative comments from internet trolls and journalists about her appearance.
"I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can't seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I'm supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don't, I'm now a target," she said, addressing critics who remarked she was "aging so badly".
In the video, Millie named the reporters who wrote shady headlines, including "Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown aging so badly?" and British comedian and former Great British Bake Off host Matt Lucas, who compared the actress to his unflattering character Vicky Pollard.
She emphasized, "This isn't journalism. This is bullying."
"The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it's disturbing. The fact that some of these articles are written by women? Even worse," she added.
Millie mentioned how people always talk about "supporting and uplifting young women" but are still bringing them down for popularity.
The Stranger Things actress continued, "Disillusioned people can't handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs. I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can't handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself."
Meanwhile, Millie expressed her gratitude to the outlet for debunking claims that she appears older after changing her hair color from brown to platinum blonde.
The negative comments began to surface when Millie appeared on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, debuting her newly bleached hair while wearing a pink slip dress, diamond earrings, and her wedding ring.
Millie Bobby Brown is best known for her role as Eleven in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. She has also starred in other hit films, such as Enola Holmes and Damsel.
