LOOK: A functional miniature kitchen that makes edible miniature food

By Racquel Quieta
Good things come in small packages, indeed. Take a look at this fully functional miniature kitchen featured in 'iJuander.'

One of the well-loved art forms in modern times is miniature art. Over the past few years, several miniature versions of random objects and food have popped on the internet.

According to pop culture expert, Prof. Schedar Jocson, miniature art originated in Europe during the medieval period and slowly gained popularity worldwide.

In a recent episode of iJuander, host Susan Enriquez entered the world of miniature art and explored some of the tiny and awe-inspiring creations of Filipino miniature enthusiasts, including a very cute miniature kitchen.

At first glance, Alex Apostol's miniature kitchen looks pretty much like the kitchen toy set of kids. However, there's a big difference: it is fully functional!

Alex, who's a Kapampangan call center agent, told Susan that she was inspired to get into miniature cooking after seeing a video of it.

She said since she loves to cook, it really piqued her interest. Hence, she started her own YouTube channel called Alex's Miniature Cooking, where she combined the art of cooking with miniature art.

Alex also said that this hobby of hers is oddly satisfying and is a great stress-reliever.

“Nakakatanggal po ng stress. At saka satisfying po 'yung pakiramdam na may nabuo kang maliit.”

Alex's miniature kitchen has appliances like a refrigerator and an oven. It also has cookware, kitchen cabinets, and a sink. All of them, despite being small, are a hundred percent working.

In her vlogs, Alex cooks different miniature dishes in her mini-kitchen, from Pinoy favorites such as kare-kare, lumpia, and ginisang ampalaya to Indian street food and other international dishes such as sushi kimbap and nasi lemak. And if you're wondering, yes, they're also all edible!

As you can imagine, it's quite challenging to cook using tiny utensils to create equally tiny dishes. But Alex does this with much eagerness and with an unbelievable skill at using the objects found in her miniature kitchen.

In the same episode of iJuander, Alex took on the 'Lost Recipe' mini adobo challenge given by Kapuso stars Mikee Quintos and Kelvin Miranda.

Plus, Susan herself also tried cooking mini sopas in Alex's miniature kitchen.

Although sopas is relatively an easy dish to cook, given it is one of the most cooked soups in every Filipino home, Susan still had a difficult time cooking it in the miniature kitchen.

“Nakakaduling lang. Nadodoble 'yung paningin ko dito sa paghiwa. Uy, mahirap ah. Challenging siya ha! 'Wag n'yong ismolin 'to.

She added, “Ano siya…cute pero kung gagawin 'to ng bata, dapat may supervision din ng matanda.”
