May the 4th be with you: Stars celebrate Star Wars Day
It's time to greet one another “May the fourth be with you” once again as we celebrate the second International Star Wars Day amid the pandemic and the 10th in history.
Star Wars Day is probably the easiest unofficial holiday to remember because of the famous greeting fans use to celebrate it and its pun on the date.
It was first observed in Toronto, Canada in 2011 and has since been celebrated by millions of fans from different generations and different parts of the world.
The Star Wars saga began in the 1977 with the release of its inaugural film 'Episode IV: A New Hope.'
It was followed by sequels 'The Empire Strikes Back' (1980) and the 'Return of the Jedi' (1983).
From 1999 to 2005, Star Wars creator George Lucas produced a prequel trilogy focusing on the origins of Darth Vader: 'The Phantom Menace' (1999), 'Attack of the Clones' (2002), and 'Revenge of the Sith' (2005).
When the Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm Ltd. in 2012, the Star Wars Universe was further expanded with the release of a sequel trilogy consisting of 'The Force Awakens' (2015), 'The Last Jedi' (2017), and 'The Rise of Skywalker' (2019).
To commemorate the well-loved film series that has spanned decades, fans usually celebrate by gathering together in conventions and themed parties dressed as their favorite iconic Star Wars characters, or even hold a movie marathon from Episodes 1 to 9.
However, due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic, a big convention is obviously not a practical and safe option right now.
So, Star Wars fans all over the globe would have to be creative in celebrating this milestone anniversary.
