Lionel Messi tests positive for COVID-19
Football superstar Lionel Messi, along with three of his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) teammates, have tested positive for COVID-19, the club confirmed in a statement on Sunday, January 2.
“The 4 players that tested positive for COVID-19 are Leo Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, and Nathan Bitumazala. They are currently in isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocol,” the announcement read.
Messi will be sitting out the team's Coupe de France match against Vannes tomorrow (PHT), while his participation in PSG's upcoming match against Lyon also seems uncertain.
According to the team's head coach Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine-born footballer must receive a negative RT-PCR test before he is allowed to travel to France. He will also undergo assessment to see whether he's prepared to play for the team after his COVID-19 ordeal.
