Having dry nails is not uncommon, especially to women. It is characterized by dryness, brittleness, peeling, splitting, or dry skin around the nails.
One of the main causes of having dry nails is too much washing and drying of the nails, especially when soaked with soap for a long time.
Furthermore, frequent exposure to chemicals like detergents, alcohol, and of course, nail polish removers can also lead to dry nails.
In less common instances, iron deficiency could also be the cause of this unsightly condition.
According to Dr. Marquez, iron supplements can only help reduce the drying of nails if there is a low level of hemoglobin in the blood.
“Depende kung na-examine ang iyong dugo at nakitang mababa 'yung hemoglobin o 'yung iron levels then you can take iron supplements,” she said.
However, the best solution to dry nails, as recommended by Dr. Marquez, is the water-soluble vitamin called biotin.
Biotin, also known as vitamin H, helps not only in the health of your nails but to your hair and skin as well.
