The makeup necessities of every beauty queen by beauty queens
A body-hugging swimwear, the stunning long gown, the signature walk, a beaming smile, and the answer to a tricky question - these are all important components of a winning beauty queen. But aside from that, a queen also has to look the part.
And although the standards of beauty have evolved over the years, let's admit that makeup and styling play an important role as well as to how Filipina beauty queens have won over the past years.
With the help of crowned beauty queens Winwyn Marquez, Thia Thomalla, Gazini Ganados, Resham Saeed, and Aya Abesamis, we take a closer look at some beauty looks that have contributed to their success in winning the crown:
Hair
It's pretty obvious that our candidates sport mostly long, straight, black hair. Not only is it a classic look, but it also looks amazing whether on camera or on stage.
To take care of their long mane, Binibining Supranational 2019 Resham Saeed and Binibining Pilipinas First Runner-up Aya Abesamis share the importance of treating your hair at least once a month.
“Hair treatments really help,” Resham says.
“I have long, thick hair from my Pakistani side. Yes, it's a blessing but it can be a curse in the heat 'cause there's so much hair on my head. So, the best way to take care of your hair is to put in the treatments your hair needs when you can.”

Aside from her monthly treatments, Aya says that placing conditioner really helps make her hair look healthy.
She shares, “My hair is really dead from working in the fashion industry. What I do is really simple - it's to always make sure that I shampoo and I always hot oil every month and have a conditioner.”
Skin
Having healthy, glowing skin is also important for these beauty queens. This “glow” helps reflect more light and makes the curves look even more defined while walking on the big stage.
To achieve this, Aya says that one of the best beauty investments a queen must consider is a good moisturizer.
“Moisturize, especially with everything that's been going thru in your day-to-day life, your face and skin need it. It really gives you a healthy glow everyday.”
As for Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados, it's all about going back to the basics.
She shares that by simplifying her skincare routine and going for organic ingredients help her skin to be at it's tip-top-shape.
She says, “I use coconut oil for everything! For both my face and my hair.
“I'm more into organic kasi. So, for face mask, I create my own by mixing yogurt, bananas, and avocados.
“And for face scrub, I mix honey, calamansi, sugar or even coffee and then scrub it for total exfoliation! Plus, I eat them too.”
Lips
Thanks to the likes of Angelina Jolie, full lips are considered an "in" thing nowadays. With the help of lip liners and bold lip colors, beauty queens can now have beautiful and pouty lips even on stage.
For Winwyn Marquez, it's essential for her to have at least two shades of lipstick on-hand: nude and one with a darker shade.
She says, “You always have to have a dark lipstick and a nude lipstick.
“Para in the morning, you can use the nude lipstick and if ever lalabas kayo sa gabi, gamitin niyo 'yung dark lipstick para may pagkakaiba 'yung look ninyo.”
Eyes
Every beauty queen looks different, but what they have in common is almond-shaped eyes.
So to emphasize their peepers, Miss Eco International 2018 Thia Thomalla makes it a point to always wear mascara on her eyelashes.
“It's very important for me to make my eyes look alive that's why I wear mascara,” she says.
She then emphasizes her eyes more by playing it up with some soft, smokey makeup to make it look more expressive and ready for close-ups.
