GMA New Media to join premier SEA gaming summit

GMA New Media Inc. (NMI), the technology arm of broadcast giant GMA Network, is among the roster of exhibitors at the 2018 Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS). NMI will join game publishers, established studios, and independent developers from October 26 to 28 at the SMX Convention Center.

As the future-proofing agent of GMA 7, NMI spearheads the Network’s digital transformation using emerging technologies to uphold its leadership in the age of new media. “We are honored to be part of such a prominent, well-respected event in the Philippine gaming industry,” NMI President and COO Judd Gallares says. “Since we started, game development has always been one of our key competencies. As technology evolved, so did we… from Flash, Java, and now Unity, and for various platforms – web, Symbian, and now, iOS and Android.”

Their most recent games include ‘Encantadia Blast,’ a puzzle game inspired by the gems and Sang’gres of the GMA’s well-loved fantaserye. It’s a match-three game that takes one through the different kingdoms from Lireo to Hathoria, giving fun facts as one levels up. Meanwhile, runner game ‘Hop Pico Piko’ provides a dose of Pinoy pride and nostalgia as it brings the popular childhood game of “piko” to mobile phones. NMI makes these games available for players to try at the three-day summit.

Taking the lead on NMI’s game development is its wholly-owned subsidiary Digify, Inc. which specializes in sensor technologies such as augmented reality and beacon/proximity marketing, as well as innovative media executions.

ESGS is one of the biggest gaming conventions in Southeast Asia, being the only event of its kind in the PH recognized by other international conferences. This year, over 30,000 attendees are expected to participate. Managing Director Joebert Yu promises that ESGS will offer a diverse gaming experience. He says, “It will be a weekend full of video gaming; from competitive matches from the best teams around the country up to the large line up of gaming titles that attendees can try out.”
