GMA Network (GMA) sustained its nationwide TV ratings dominance in February, according to data from the industry’s widely-trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
From February 1 to 28 (with February 19 to 28 based on overnight data), GMA Network remained the viewers’ choice with an average total day people audience share of 41.2 percent in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), leading ABS-CBN’s 34.9 percent by 6.3 points.
GMA led across all dayparts in NUTAM with primetime fantasy series Encantadia on the top spot. The Alden Richards-Maine Mendoza starrer, Destined To Be Yours, which premiered on February 27, immediately ranked high while Magpakailanman, Alyas Robin Hood, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, and primetime newscast 24 Oras also joined them in the list.
In Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country, GMA reigned supreme with an average people audience share of 47.3 percent, outranking ABS-CBN’s 29.1 percent.
The Kapuso Network also led across all dayparts in the said viewer-rich area, where 24 out of 30 top rating programs were from GMA. Topping the list are primetime programs Encantadia and Destined To Be Yours. Recently launched programs Legally Blind, Saturday comedy-musical show Full House Tonight, and crime documentary drama Case Solved also made it to the list of top programs.
Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media. With approximately 900 more homes surveyed in Total Urban and Rural Philippines compared to Kantar, Nielsen data is statistically considered more representative of the total TV population.
In 2016, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, the leading ratings service provider, increased its client pool to a total of 36 clients/subscribers which now include 12 local TV networks, 5 regional clients, 2 blocktimers, and 17 media agencies.
GMA subscribes to Nielsen along with other local networks TV5, Aksyon TV, CNN Philippines, Net 25, Solar Entertainment Corporation, Viva Communications Inc., among others; regional network Fox Networks Group; blocktimers CBN Asia and TAPE Inc.; and major advertising and media agencies such as Ebiquity-Faulkner, Dentsu Aegis Network (Carat, Mediaforce Vizeum, Dentsu), GroupM (Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC and Maxus), Omnicom Media Group (OMD, PHD and M2M), Zenith Optimedia, and Starcom Mediavest.
