GMA Network Excellence Awardee tops 2015 bar exam

The Kapuso Network proudly congratulates GMA Network Excellence Awardee Rachel Angeli B. Miranda who recently topped the 2015 Philippine Bar Examinations.

In 2011, Miranda was among the recipients of the GMA Network Excellence Award, the Network’s corporate social responsibility initiative that instills educational excellence in the youth by recognizing outstanding graduating students who have shown exemplary leadership, stellar academic performance, and proactive social responsibility.

Espousing the value of excellence throughout her academic career, Miranda, who graduated cum laude from the UP College of Mass Communication and earned her Juris Doctor degree from the UP College of Law, says joining GMA’s CSR program for education gave her a better understanding of what she could achieve. “When I was applying for the GMA Network Excellence Award, it was an evaluation of myself, of what I had been doing in MassComm,” she explained. “And it helped me figure out the path that I was supposed to take and if I was ready to do the things that I wanted to accomplish.”

With an undergraduate degree in Journalism, Miranda says her interest in the law profession began after she studied media law as part of the curriculum.

During a courtesy call held recently, GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon lauded the bar topnotcher. “She has a bright future,” said Gozon. “We are gratified that in our Excellence program, we choose the best and the brightest.”

Gozon further advised Miranda, as well as other bar exam passers to excel in their endeavors. “There is no substitute for hard work. In law, it’s about preparation, preparation, and preparation,” he emphasized.

When asked what she can offer as a lawyer, she says, “My passion to do work that is not only excellent, but also honorable.”

“It’s not enough to be a lawyer, but you have to be a great lawyer and to carry with you the honor and excellence of your school and of your nation,” she furthered.

Now that she has passed the bar, she hopes to champion human rights in her practice. “I certainly want to advocate for human rights, especially for freedom of expression because of my background in media,” she shared.
