The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said it is investigating alleged undocumented Chinese crew members of MV Sangko Uno at Navotas Port.
In a statement, the PCG said that it responded to the report about alleged undocumented Chinese crew members on Sunday evening.
“The Coast Guard response team confirmed that there are five Chinese nationals and one Filipino-Chinese national who are allegedly undocumented,” the PCG said.
According to the PCG, the crew said they will present their legal documents and passports on Monday as their company’s office is only open during office hours.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to help the PCG verifying the legal status of the concerned crew.
For the investigation, the PCG collected documents from the crew including the crew list, ship's logbook,, and other available records.
“If found guilty of violating Philippine immigration laws, the concerned crew will undergo deportation process,” the PCG said.
Aside from the concerned crew, the PCG said their company may also face fines and penalties if found guilty of violations of maritime and immigration regulations
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Chinese Embassy will be informed about the incident for diplomatic communication regarding the concerned crew, the PCG said.
