Ironman event confirms death of participant in race

Triathlon event IRONMAN 70.3 confirmed the death of one of its participants on Sunday in Davao.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant at IRONMAN 70.3 Davao," the sporting event said in a statement.

IRONMAN 70.3 said the athlete was brought to the hospital after being given medical attention during the swim part of the competition.

"Our condolences go out to the athlete's family and friends, whom we will continue to support."

According to its website, IRONMAN 70.3 "offers 30 Age Group Qualifying slots and 25 Extra Slots for Women to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on August 26th - 27th, 2023 in Lahti, Finland."
