Ancajas wins US debut by tenth round knockout

Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas of Panabo Davao del Norte impressed in his US debut following a tenth round stoppage victory against Mexican Israel Gonzalez Saturday night (Sunday morning PHL time) at Bank of America Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Ancajas, 26, sent his foe to the canvas as early as the first round with a left cross that landed square on the jaw. Ancajas dropped Gonzalez for the second time in the bout halfway through round ten. The game Mexican managed to beat the count, but another hard left from Ancajas sent him crashing to the canvas for the third and final time as the referee halted the contest at the 1:50.

The win was Ancajas' 16th straight victory with 15 of them by stoppage. He improved his record to 29-1-1 (20KOs) while Gonzalez fell to 21-2 (8KOS). — LA, GMA News
