Sotto files reso honoring Pacquiao for TKO win vs. Matthysse


Senate President Vicente Sotto III has filed a resolution congratulating Senator Manny Pacquiao for claiming his 11th world title by defeating World Boxing Association welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse in their fight in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 15.

In Senate Resolution 788, Sotto said that inspite of the undisputed record of Argentinian boxer Matthysse who held a total of 39 wins with 36 knockouts, Pacquiao displayed his prowess in the boxing ring.

The Filipino boxing champion overshadowed the younger Mattysse by knocking him down thrice.

Sotto said Pacquiao prevailed in the bout by way of a technical knockout victory earning him the WBA welterweight crown that paved for his 11th world championship title.

He further said the senator likewise displayed his leadership in public service by participating in various committee hearings and plenary deliberations.

“The astounding feat of Filipino boxing great Senator Manny Pacquiao over Lucas Matthysse has once again delivered pride, joy, and glory to the hearts of the millions of Filipino people cheering in the midst of the economic and political turmoil they are currently facing,” he said.

Sotto watched the fight in Kuala Lumpur.

The Senate is expected to adopt the resolution when it resumes its session Tuesday. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
