Pacquiao says he is good for two, three more fights

Filipino boxing icon and Senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday said he is good for a few more fights before he entertains the thought of retiring from boxing.

"Siguro mga dalawa, tatlo na lang," Pacquiao said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB. "Baka may isa pa ng November or first week ng December... Sikapin kong dalhin sa Pilipinas."

On Sunday, Pacquiao defeated Lucas Matthysse to win the World Boxing Association welterweight championship via technical knockout.

In a post fight conference, the senator said his "convincing win" was proof that he can still fight in defiance of critics who believe the now-senator should retire.

Pacquiao, who was at the airport at the time of the interview, admitted that his training for the fight against the 35-year-old Argentine boxer was hard.

"Yung sacrifice na ginawa natin sobra, grabe yung training na ginawa natin. Kaya nagresulta ng magandang performance," he said.

An analyst noted that Coach Buboy Fernandez adjusted Pacquiao's training to his age, which allowed Pacquiao to be fresh in the fight that supposedly allowed the senator to regain his confidence.

"Si Buboy ang nag-training at maganda ang tandem namin. Cooperation, hard work, maganda talaga," Pacquiao said of his coach.

The boxer said his corner felt Matthysse started to give out by the third round when he scored a knockdown with a combination. He would send his opponent to the ground again before his seventh round win.

"Controlled natin yung fight, pero hindi tayo na-kumpyansa," he commented. "Talagang napaghandaan ko yung style niya. Kung ano yung ginawa namin sa training, talagang accurate sa style niya."

"Malakas rin si Matthysse, mabigat rin yung suntok niya," Pacquiao added. "Ilang beses naming ni-replay yung fights niya habang nasa training kami." — Rie Takumi/RSJ, GMA News
