Pacquiao to critics: I'm not gone
After winning against Argentinian boxer Lucas Matthysse on Sunday, Manny Pacquiao left a strong message for his detractors at the post-fight press conference.
"Like I said, I'm not gone [from boxing]. I'm still there. It's just a matter of time to take rest and then get it back," said Pacquiao when asked what his message was for those who believe that it's time for the 39-year-old boxer and politician to retire.
"That's what I did, especially this fight. Bringing a convincing victory, a convincing win, bringing honor to our country," Pacquiao continued.
"As a 39-year-old, I'm still okay, I'm still fine. The way I work hard, you cannot see that I'm 39 years old. When you saw me training and preparing for this fight, you can say. I'm like like 28, 27 years old," he said before laughing.
The senator-boxing icon scored a seventh round technical knockout victory over Matthysse, his 60th victory.
He won the World Boxing Association welterweight title in his first fight since his loss to Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia last year.
Pacquiao dedicated his triumph to all Filipinos and to President Rodrigo Duterte, who was able to watch the fight before a scheduled meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
