FIBA slaps suspension, fine on Aussie team following 'basketbrawl' with Gilas
Three Australian players were slapped with suspensions following a brawl with the home team at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers game between Philippines and Australia at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan earlier this month.
In a release, FIBA announced the suspension of the following players for unsportsmanlike behavior:
- Daniel Kickert (5 games)
- Thon Maker (3 games)
- Chris Goulding (1 game)
No sanctions are imposed on Nathan Sobey and Jason Cadee.
Basketball Australia is also mandated to pay a disciplinary fine of CHF 100,000 (about P5,353,121.59) “for the unsportsmanlike behavior of its players and for abusing and/or tampering of equipment, after having removed floor stickers from the court on the eve of the game.”
FIBA meanwhile suspended 10 Gilas players and 2 coaches and fined the SBP, CHF 250,000 (about P13,386,776.05). — LA, GMA News
