Fire guts QC home of musician Freddie Aguilar

The North Fairview-Quezon City home of musician Freddie Aguilar was gutted in a late Tuesday night fire, Super Radyo dzBB reported.

The fire started at around 11:06 p.m., reached the First Alarm, and was put out at 11:39 p.m.

According to Aguilar's son Jeriko, he was in the ground-floor music room when he heard several popping noises.

When he stepped out of the room to investigate, he saw that the ceiling was on fire.

Aguilar's wife, Jovie, was on the second floor. Having heard Jeriko's warnings, Jovie, along with her mother, attempted to get to the ground floor, but the smoke was too thick.

They instead went out the balcony, and climbed to the roof. From there, they managed to make it to the neighbor's roof.

Though it was fortunate that no one was injured in the fire, Aguilar lamented that important memorabilia, such as some of his original recordings, awards, and musical instruments, were lost in the fire.

Damage has been estimated to be between P13 million to P15 million, according to a report on News To Go on Wednesday.

Bureau of Fire Protection officials are investigating whether the fire was caused by overloading of electrical circuits or a leak in the ceiling. —DVM/KG, GMA News
