Acclaimed director Maryo J. delos Reyes brought to final resting place


Tears poured as veteran director Maryo J. delos Reyes was brought to his final resting place on Saturday.

In a report by Nelson Canlas on 24 Oras, the Requiem Mass for the late director was very solemn, attended only by his closes friends and members of his family.

Among the people who joined Delos Reyes' family were Rez Cortez, Joel Torre, Rich Asuncion and Katrina Halili.

"From 2008 to 2014, every year, magkasama kami sa limang soap, kaya naging close talaga ako kay Direk," Halili said.

Delos Reyes' remains were cremated and brought to his final resting place at Himlayang Pilipino in Quezon City.

The veteran director passed away on January 27 after suffering from a heart attack while attending a birthday party in Dapitan City. He was 65.

Delos Reyes was known for the critically acclaimed drama film "Magnifico" (2003), which received the Crystal Bear for the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival, "Naglalayag" (2004) which garnered major awards in the 2004 Manila Film Festival and the box-office hit "A Love Story" (2007).

His last film was "The Unmarried Wife" (2016), starring Dingdong Dantes who won Best Actor of the Year from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Entertainment Awards.

Delos Reyes was supposed to direct GMA Network's upcoming television drama series "Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka," starring Yasmien Kurdi and Mike Tan. He had directed numerous drama series for GMA Network including "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Pari 'Koy," "Niño," "Magkano ba ang Pag-ibig," among others. —Jamil Santos/ALG, GMA News
