Vinta exits PAR —PAGASA

Vinta has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility as a typhoon on Sunday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

At 10:00 a.m., PAGASA said Vinta was spotted 290 kilometers south of Pagasa Island in Palawan, outside PAR, moving west at 25 kilometers per hour.

But in its wake, tens of thousands have been forced from their homes as it battered the southern Philippines leaving at least 182 dead, police and aid agencies said Sunday.

It triggered flash floods and mudslides as it lashed through the Mindanao region, displacing more than 70,000 people, said the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

As it exits the PAR, Vinta packs maximum sustained winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour near and the center and gusts of up to 145 kilometers per hour.

No storm warning signal is currently raised over any part of the country.

But scattered to widespread, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will prevail over Palawan, especially on its southern part, PAGASA added.

It advised residents of these areas to be wary of flooding and landslides and to coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Likewise, sea travel remains risky over the western seaboard of Palawan.

Before exiting PAR, Vinta left at least 180 people dead and more than 70,000 others displaced, police and aid agencies said on Sunday. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
