Tropical Storm Salome maintains strength, now off Batangas coast
Tropical Storm Salome has maintained its strength and is now off the coast of Batangas, PAGASA reported in its early morning Severe Weather Storm Bulletin.
The center of the Tropical Storm was at 75 kilometers west northwest of Ambulong, Batangas by 1 a.m. on Friday.
Salome has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 110 kph as it continues in the west northwest at 22 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is hoisted over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and the northern section of Orinetal and Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is hoisted over Bulacan, Pampanga, southern Zambales, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Quezon, the rest of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 250 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
The state weather bureau warns residents under TCWS No. 2 and No. 1 as well as Central Luzon are advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Sea travel is risky over areas under TCWS No. 2 and No. 1 due to rough to very rough seas.
Salome is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday morning.
The public and the disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next next Severe Weather Bulletin to be issued at 5 a.m. on Friday. — BAP, GMA News
