Maring, Lannie exit Philippine Area of Responsibility, leaving 5 dead, 6 missing


State weather bureau PAGASA on Wednesday afternoon said Tropical Storm Maring is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the storm was estimated at 495 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 105 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said Maring was forecast to move west northwest at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA added that Typhoon Lannie has also exited PAR.

At 4 p.m., the eye of Lannie was located at 640 kilometers Northeast of Basco, Batanes, having maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

The weather bureau, meanwhile, said occasional heavy rains and strong winds will be experienced in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

Occasional heavy rains will also prevail in the Mindanao region due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council , five people have been confirmed killed and six more are still missing following the onslaught of Maring. — MDM/KVD, GMA News
